“Trust AI” is bad advice

“Trust AI” is bad advice for anyone who runs a company.

You know the moment. The system shows you a number, everyone nods, you nod too, even though you couldn't say where that number comes from. That nod is the problem.

I use AI every day. But trust isn't the right word. When a system hands me a conclusion, I first want to see how it got there. What it looked at, why this and not that, where it could be wrong.

When I can't ask that, I'm not deciding. I'm listening. And a leader who just listens to a black box has quietly given away the one part of the job that is truly theirs: judgment.

The answer isn't less AI. It's AI you can cross-examine. Show me the inputs, show me the logic, let me push back and watch whether the answer holds or falls apart.

A good decision survives that pressure. If a system can't show how it reached a result, it isn't giving you a decision. It's giving you a confident guess.

Trust belongs to people. From tools I want transparency.

Which tools do you trust right now without being able to check them?
