The consulting trap

For ten years my work had a ceiling. One person, one company, only so many hours in a week.

The client got moving, sales picked up. Then I left, and within six months the old habits were back. The thinking walked out the door with me.

That's the consulting trap. The know-how lives in one head. When the head leaves, the know-how leaves too.

A method that only works when I'm in the room isn't a method. It's me. And I don't scale.

So I started writing it down. The questions I ask first. The order I work in. The line between a good decision and a bad one.

The test was simple. Can the client keep making good decisions without me?

If your company stops the moment you leave the room, you don't own a company. You own a job with your name on the door.

What happens at your company only when you do it yourself?
